PARTS OF SPEECH

Words are generally divided into eight
classes or parts of speech according to the work they do in a sentences :
(1)A
NOUN is a word which names any person or thing : man, book, gold, Bangladesh
(2)An
adjective is a word which adds something to the meaning of a noun : A good boy,
a dark room.
A
pronoun is a word used for a noun or a clause: Rahim is not here , he is ill.
He failed which broke his heart .
(3)
A verb is a word which states something about
a person or a thing : He walks . I go. The sun shines.
(5)
An adverb is a word which generally adds something to the meaning to the of a
verb , an adjective , or another adverb
.He walks fast . He is very clever boy .He walks very fast.
(6)
A Preposition is a word placed before a noun or a noun equivalent to show
its relation to some other word in a the sentences –The book on the table. He
came to me.
(7)
A conjunction is a word which joins words , phrases or clauses- He said this to
Karim and Nurul. He sat behind you but
in front of me. As he was ill, he did
not go to school.
(8)
An Interjection is a word which expresses some sudden feeling or emotion –Alas
! Hark! Bravo!
EXERCISE 4
State the parts of speech of the in the following sentences
in the following sentences :I know Abdul who gave you the book . The school in
which I read has a very good headmaster . Bangladesh is a free country . I went there and returned soon after .Bravo! this is nicely
done. Children like sweets. Gold is a valuable thing. The tree fell but none
was hurt . Put the book on the table.
Najma is my sister. She is intelligent. He speaks fluently and well.
